Hours: 2

“A Quick Guide to Choosing Great Informational Books for Young Children” and “Assessing Children’s Literature” should be read.

Examine the children’s section of your nearest public library. Consider and ponder the following questions:

What exactly is in the collection?

How does the collection help young adolescents with cultural and linguistic diversity, language development, and reading acquisition? Consider the variety of books available, as well as the genres.

How does the library’s space encourage children’s engagement with high-quality literature, informational texts, and electronic sources?

Reflect on your observations in 250-500 words. Additionally, make a note of any special literacy staffing and/or literacy events. Because the Benchmark Assessment focuses on lesson planning with informational text, it is critical to understand the differences between high-quality literature and high-quality informational texts.
